In the Trace of the Past, to the Future of Health: Integrative Medicine – Building Bridges Between Cultures
Knowledge Diversity, Well-Being Societies and Planetary Health
Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) represents a significant and increasingly recognized component of global healthcare. With a long-standing historical foundation and widespread use across populations, TCIM contributes to health promotion, disease prevention, and the management of chronic and complex conditions.
The World Health Organization (WHO) Global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025–2034 underlines the role of TCIM in strengthening health systems through evidence-based integration. Similarly, the outcomes of the WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine (Gujarat Declaration, 2023) highlight the contribution of TCIM to advancing universal health coverage and achieving the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The WHO Declaration of Astana (2018) on primary health care and the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration (2023), both of which recognize the value of integrating diverse health knowledge systems. The inclusion of traditional medicine within the WHO International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) reflects its growing relevance within global health policy and practice.
In this context, TCIM is increasingly viewed as a key element in promoting the health and well-being of individuals, communities, and the planet, while supporting more inclusive, sustainable, and culturally responsive healthcare systems.
Aligned with these global priorities, this congress aims to foster the responsible, evidence-informed integration of traditional, complementary, and conventional medicine. Particular emphasis will be placed on strengthening the scientific evidence base through multidisciplinary and innovative research approaches that acknowledge the complex, holistic, and individualized nature of integrative medicine.
